How To Help

Help Us Build for Your Future

Right now, more than 780 seniors are waiting for an affordable place to call home, and more names are added to our waiting list every day. The affordable housing crisis has left seniors burdened with financial worries at a time when they should be enjoying their retirement years. For many, these are not the happy golden years everyone dreams about.

The only solution is to build more affordable senior’s housing, however, construction doesn’t happen overnight, often taking  years and several million dollars. A donation to the Building for Life fund can help end the wait for those who need housing now as well as ensure we’ll be there when you need us.

Our Successes

In 2015, GEF Seniors Housing opened Ottewell Terrace. The building was supported in part by the Building for Life Fund. More than 50 seniors call Ottewell Terrace their home. Help us repeat Ottewell Terrace’s success and ensure more seniors in need can have a friendly, affordable, and secure place to call home.

Volunteer and Connect with Seniors

When you volunteer, you are giving the gift of your time and talent to help others. We offer many volunteer opportunities to directly interact with seniors living at our residences throughout the city. You could assist our Recreation Coordinators with lodge activity programs, such as art classes, exercise programs and special events or entertain seniors with your singing, dancing or other musical talent.

To show our appreciation to our volunteers, we invite them to a special Volunteer Recognition Event. GEF Seniors Housing is also happy to provide reference letters and confirmation of your volunteer hours to fulfill academic, corporate and association based volunteer requirements. We welcome people who want to share their smiles, ideas, encouragement, enthusiasm, and energy

We are always looking for new program ideas and welcome your suggestions on anything that keeps seniors active mentally and physically! Call us at 780-482-6561, email volunteer@gef.org or click here to download our volunteer application
